The ideal time to photograph your newborn is within the first 5–21 days after birth.

During these early weeks, babies are often sleepier and naturally curl into those peaceful poses that many parents love.

However, I offer newborn sessions for babies up to around 2–3 months old, adapting every session to suit your baby's age, personality and stage of development.

Firstly, there is really no right or wrong timing to photograph your new arrival, so feel no pressure to arrange your photoshoot so soon after birth, if this does not sit right for you.

However, the first few 3-4 weeks are a really unique and fleeting stage, where your newborn will still have those tiniest features, sleepy expressions and naturally curled poses that many parents wish to capture. This first phase passes faster than you expect, as babies quickly adjust to life outside the womb.

From the first month onwards babies typically become much more alert, expressive and interactive, creating a different—but equally beautiful—style of gallery.

Every stage is worth remembering, and I tailor each session around your baby's personality and age.

I recommend booking during your pregnancy, ideally after your 20-week scan, to secure availability.

We'll reserve a provisional date based on your due date, which can easily be adjusted once your baby is born. This also allows us to plan everything before your baby arrives so you have one thing less to worry about in those precious, early days.

However, if your baby is already here, don't hesitate to enquire about last minute availability.

Babies rarely arrive exactly on schedule, so I always leave flexibility in my diary to move your session if needed.

Newborn photography is an unregulated industry and not every photographer has received specialist training in safe newborn handling and posing. That's why it's so important to choose someone with the appropriate knowledge and experience.

Your baby's safety and comfort are always my highest priority. Alongside over 20 years of experience working with children in healthcare, I have completed specialist training in newborn photography, including certification in safe newborn posing. I will, always continue to develop my skills through ongoing education, mentoring and hands-on training with some of the industry's most respected newborn photographers.

During every session, I use only natural, gently guided poses that prioritise your baby's comfort and wellbeing. I never use poses that are now considered outdated or unsafe, and I always follow your baby's cues, respecting their comfort and individuality.

The newborn sessions can be arranged in my cosy studio based in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire or in the comfort of your own home - whichever you prefer.

Although it's completely optional, I always encourage parents to join in for a few family portraits.

The connection between you and your baby is one of the most meaningful memories you'll ever have, and these photographs often become the most treasured over time – both for you and your children. Years from now you will be so happy that you were in the frame!

I know how much you want to have a photograph with all your children together! Becoming a big sister or brother is such a milestone for them and they want to be acknowledged in their important new role.

I will simply adapt the session to suit your children's ages, ensuring everyone has relaxed and enjoyable experience.

A typical session lasts around 2.5–3 hours, sometimes a little longer.

Much of our time together will be spent feeding, changing, cuddling and settling your baby. The photography itself happens in short, relaxed moments whenever your little one is comfortable and content.

If you're including older siblings, especially toddlers or preschoolers, we'll also work around their needs.

Every baby is different, and that's exactly how I expect every newborn session to be. Some babies sleep beautifully, others are curious and wide awake. Some need longer feeds or extra cuddles.

The best photographs are never created by rushing. Instead, we simply allow your baby to set the pace, creating a calm and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Not at all — this is completely your choice.

When done safely and correctly, wrapping/swaddling can be very comforting for newborns, helping them feel secure and settled, similar to the cosy feeling they experienced in the womb.

However, if swaddling isn't something you would like for your baby, we can create beautiful, natural photographs without it. Every session is tailored around your preferences and your baby's comfort.

Although it may not seem like the most important part of your session, choosing the right outfits can make a big difference to the overall look and feel of your photographs.

When you book a session with me, I'll happily help you coordinate your outfits so they photograph beautifully. I'm a big believer that you already have everything you need in your wardrobe, so there are no shopping lists or lengthy styling guides to follow.

I also have a carefully curated client wardrobe for newborns and children, complimentary for you.

Every baby is different, particularly during those first few weeks when routines are still developing and they are still adjusting to the world.

Therefore, I will not ask you to do anything different, except what feels natural to you and what your baby needs! I won't ask you to keep your baby awake before your session, feed them at specific times or follow any special routines beforehand.

While these suggestions can sometimes be helpful, for me they're never essential and can create a lot of stress for families instead!

For me it doesn't matter if your baby will be able to sleep quickly in the beginning of the session - I'll simply work around your baby's natural rhythm on the day to capture their sleepy and awake moments as they naturally occur.

Please don't worry.

Awake babies create beautiful photographs too. Curious expressions, eye contact and gentle movements often become some of parents' favourite images.

With plenty of time and patience, most babies naturally fall asleep during the session—but if they don't, we'll still create a gorgeous gallery.

Your baby's health will always come first.

We'll simply rearrange your session when it's safe and appropriate.

If a newborn session is no longer possible, you'll have the option to transfer your booking to a future milestone or family session, or receive a refund where appropriate.

No, if your baby is otherwise well, there's absolutely no need to postpone your session.

These are very common skin problems during the newborn stage. My gentle and professional retouching can soften temporary skin changes, while preserving your baby's natural features.

If your baby is unwell, we'll simply reschedule.
